Cebu is a beautiful province located in the central Visayas region of the Philippines. Known for its pristine beaches, rich culture, and friendly people, it has become a popular destination for tourists and expats alike. If you're planning to tie the knot in Cebu, here are some requirements you need to know.
Firstly, both parties must be at least 18 years old and not related by blood or adoption. If one of the parties is between 18-21 years old, they must have parental consent. Foreigners need to secure a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage (CLCCM) from their respective embassy or consulate in the Philippines.
Secondly, you need to obtain a marriage license from the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of the city or municipality where either one of you resides. The following documents are required:
- Original birth certificate or certified true copy issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
- Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) issued by the PSA
- Valid IDs with clear photo and signature (e.g. passport, driver's license, etc.)
- Barangay Certificate or Certificate of Residency
If either party has been previously married, a Certificate of Finality of Annulment, Nullity, or Legal Separation must also be presented.
Thirdly, you need to attend a pre-marriage counseling and seminar conducted by the LCR. This is to ensure that both parties understand the nature, obligations, and responsibilities of marriage.
Lastly, the wedding ceremony must be officiated by a solemnizing officer authorized by the Philippine government. The marriage certificate must be signed by both parties, witnesses, and the solemnizing officer.
